FAQ

Entry into South Africa will be at OR Tambo international airport in Johannesburg or Cape Town and then flying to Port Elizabeth or East London airport. 

Please check with your local Embassy about Visas well before your safari.

Additional documentation is needed by persons under the age of 18 years for travel to and from South Africa.

It is highly recommended that you have some form of travel insurance before embarking on your safari. Although we haven’t had any incidents to date being prepared for accidents is always important

All the neccessary permits for animals and hunting are arranged on confirmation of the hunt 

Fully qualified skinners and trackers are available to fulfill your requirements

Larger plains game species we recommend;  30-06, 7 mm, 300 Win Mag, 338.

For smaller plains game 243 up to a 30-06 will suffice.

Most Southern African countries by law require a minimum of 375 for all dangerous game. 

243, 6.5×55, 30-06 and 12 bore are available for rent if you choose not to bring your own weapons into the country

  • Good quality pair of binoculars of at least 8×42 magnification.
  • A camera to capture your hunting experiences 
  • The standard electricity supply in Southern Africa is 220 V AC. You may need to bring a converter for your trip.
  • Tick repellant (prevent the risk of tick bite fever) with DEET in it.
  • At least SPF 30 sunblock
  • For hunts that require sitting in a blind we recommend quieter clothing items (fleecy tops, jerseys or jacket without waterproof lining)
  • Comfortable walking boots
  • Comfortable camp shoes
  • 4 pairs of decent socks
  • 5 sets of under wear
  • 3 pairs of long hunting pants and 3 pairs of shorts (avoid lighter colors)
  • 4 hunting shirts (avoid lighter colors)
  • 1 Hunting jacket (camo)
  • a warm jumper or sweater (avoid lighter colors)
  • Casual wear for around camp if needed
  • Gloves for cold weather or night hunting
  • 1 raincoat
  • Cap or hat for protection from the sun
  • Extra gear- flashlight, pocket knife, small back pack for daily equipment storage, extra toiletries (includes any prescription medication you may need), sunglasses, sufficient ammunition
  • Cites permits you may require
  • First aid kit is available, but it would be wise to bring your own requirements along
  • FINAL CHECKLIST: Passport, airline tickets and any other supporting documents that may be required (rifle documents if needed)

Rates and Pricing
  • All prices are quoted in USD
 
Booking Procedures & Conditions
  • Once you have contacted us with your hunting enquiry, booking can take place directly with Lynx Safaris.
 
Deposits
  • A booking will only be held once a minimum of $1000 has been received as a deposit and an agreement has been met between Lynx Safaris and the client.
  • A minimum $1000 is required to confirm a booking, while trophy fees will be determined by the year in which the hunt will take place.
 
Payment
  • Full payment of the balance of the total daily rate for the safari is due upon arrival at camp.
  • Trophy fees can be settled at the end of the hunt.
  • We do accept personal checks, travelers’ checks, cash and all leading credit cards. Please note there may be a slight difference in credit card charges from time of payment to when the transaction takes place due to exchange rate fluctuations.
 
Our Prices Include the following
  • Pick- up and drop off at the nearest airport to camp in the area in which you will be hunting, unless prior special arrangements have been made.

  • Hunting license and permit fees.

  • The services of an experienced and qualified Professional Hunter with a four-wheel-drive vehicle and a tracker.

  • Standard equipment where required.

  • All the personal required on the safari.

  • All accommodation

  • All land transportation while on safari.

  • All meals, drinks (beer, wine and soft drinks) and laundry services.

  • A 15% Government value added tax (VAT) on all daily rates and services. This tax does not apply to trophy fees.

 
Additional Costs that our Prices do not Include
  • International & domestic flights.
  • Shipping & taxidermy.
  • Day Fee/s for the day of arrival – first night in camp.
  • Trophy handling fee per hunter /per safari.
  • Provincial transfers if required, unless prior special arrangements have been made.
  • Rifle hire and ammunition per safari if required.
  • Local shopping trip/s to town.
  • Gratuities for safari staff and Professional Hunters.
  • Meals and liquor outside of camps and hunting areas.
  • Telephones and limited Internet service
  • Although unlikely, prices are subject to changes without prior notice, unless pre-booked and confirmed.

Wounded / Harvested Trophies
  • Any animal wounded/hit, where blood is drawn, and found OR lost, will be deemed as taken. The full trophy fee will apply.
 
Gratuities
  • The tipping of trackers, camp staff and PH’s must always be done in USD$ cash
  • Tips can be added to the final bill of the safari if preferred
  • A tip is highly appreciated, but not expected.
 
Insurance
  • We recommend that ALL clients obtain travel insurance prior to their safari.
 
Cancellation and General Policy
  • Deposits are non refundable but transferable to following year.
  • Final payment on trophy fees and daily rate payable at the end of the safari.
  • Payment must be made in cash, credit card or wired transfer.
  • No refunds are made for late arrivals or early departures.
  • No refunds are given for cancellations 30 days or less before arrival.
  • We reserve the right to use any photos or film taken of your group for marketing purposes.
  • All animals are subject to availability (unless pre-booked).
  • Meat is not included in the animal price. Meat may not be exported out of the country.
